Private immigration casework
In order for us to carry on providing a free service to the majority of our service users, the Law Centre takes on some fee paying cases. We are a not for profit charity so all monies received from fee paying clients will go into ensuring that we are able to carry on providing the current free service.
We only take on fee paying cases for people who do not qualify for Legal Aid and when we believe that having Legal Representation will have a positive effect on the outcome of the case.
We will not take on a case where the Application is straight forward and no representation is required for example –
- Nationality Applications
- Simple Extension Applications or Appeals
We will continue to give free advice in such cases.

Fees and disbursements must be paid in advance.
VAT applies to services provided for clients resident in the UK or European Union. For VAT purposes, advice is provided to the person we see in the UK not to the person abroad whose case we might be doing.
Higher court hourly rates depend on the level of the court to which we make an application. We will agree the rates before we take on this kind of work.
Disbursements are additional costs such as fees payable, for example, to the Home Office, an embassy or a court, the cost of an interpreter or barrister, translation of documents, specialist reports or DNA testing. Such costs are not included in the fees quoted above and are not necessary in every case. You will be notified in advance if you have to pay any disbursements in addition to our fees.
There may be additional fees for an adjourned hearing, but we will not charge if the adjournment is unavoidable.
There may also be additional charges for very complex initial applications. This would be at a rate of £53.60 an hour (£64.30 including VAT). We will discuss this with you before any additional costs are incurred.
Payment
Cash, cheques, debit cards, postal and money orders and bankers drafts are accepted. Credit cards are not accepted. Cheques have to clear before any work is done on your case.
